About Dunnington
Dunnington is normally linked with the nearby village of Grimston. Together these two beautiful villages nestle on a ridgeway which runs from the East Yorkshire Wolds to the historic City of York, England.
Their position, situated 4 miles east of York has, influenced their history, as illustrated by archaeological finds such as Neolithic and Bronze age flint tools, Iron age pottery, Roman coins and Saxon artefacts. These point to a long history of settlements on this village site. Reference to the villages can be found in the Domesday Book.
For many years Dunnington was a major producer of chicory but now sugar beets are a much more popular crop.
