Minutes of last meeting
Minutes of meeting held at 47 York Street on 20th of January 2009 at 7pm
Present: Kay Wheater, June Smith, Nigel Taggart, Muriel Dodsworth, Angela Rawes, Brian Horner, Ron Bielby, David King, Marilyn Jones, Peter Wilson.
Apologies: Lily Rowe, Olwyn Fonseca, Stan Jacques, Hilda Lupton and Jerad Zimmermann.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Matters arising: Peter reported to the group that the Roman alters have returned to the Yorkshire Museum. He also stated that Jerad Zimmermann has agreed to be our Webmaster, and that there is enough room on the site for news, Òsnippets of historyÓ and requests for further information.
Peter and Brian intend to meet with members of the various sports clubs in the village with the aim of getting information about their formation and history.
It was agreed to postpone the social outing till later in the year.
Nigel reported that the accounts for 2007-8 have now been examined and no observations were made.
June also announced her resignation as Chairman and she was thanked for all her work.Ê A new chair will be elected at the AGM.
There was a general discussion about the proposed booklet on the history of Dunnington.Ê Marilyn showed several examples of other local history booklets and the group was asked as to what sort of book they wanted.
1. A book of memories about the village.
2. A book where information was described in the various centuries, i.e. 18th, 19th century.
3. A book of just one century, i.e. 1800-1900.
4. A book of varying topics.
Brian stated that we should be looking at the Parish of Dunnington as well as the village of Dunnington.
It was agreed that we would do a book about various topics, which could include all or some of the following:
1. Population of the village through time.
2. Trade Directories and information there, including employment.
3. Crime and punishment.
4. Wells and pumps.
5. Health.
6. Public services in the village.
7. Education.
8. Chicory.
9. Agriculture.
10. New houses.
11. Lost houses.
12. Shops and public houses.
13. Religion.
14. War and home guard.
15. DVLR.
16. Hassacar.
17. Sports and leisure.
18. Mintoft book.
19. Families, houses and the book of particulars.
20. Evacuees.
21. Manor court rolls.
22. Lunatic Asylum.
It was agreed that the following people would undertake research from the above list in the first instance and would bring approximately 500 words on ÒtheirÓ topic to the next meeting:
1. Marilyn - Crime and punishment.
2. June - Families and the book of particulars.Ê Possibly with Olwyn if agreeable.
3. Muriel - Trade directories and employment.
4. Angela - Education.
5. Ron - Agriculture.
6. Brian - Sports and leisure.
7. Kay - Manor court rolls.
8. Dave - New houses, estates and planning.
9. Nigel- War and the home guard fire and police.
10. Peter - Lost houses, Mintoff book and general support.
The group thanked Kay for the use of her house.
The next meeting will be the AGM to be held in the Reading Room balconey if available on the 14th of April 2009 at 9pm.
The meeting closed at 9:30pm.
